Grand Opening of the HIVE Neighbourhood Centre, Maple Ridge, British Columbia

October 26th, 2009 marks the grand opening of the HIVE Neighbourhood Centre (aka the HUB or Neighbourhood Centre at Eric Langton) a community led project that has been underway for over two years. The HIVE provides individuals of all ages with a place to: learn, connect, get support, and share knowledge thus improving long-term outcomes for children and families and strengthening the neighbourhood.

Initially envisioned by School District 42 and the District of Maple Ridge, and supported by a wide range of local agencies, the HIVE will improve access to, and create new and exciting, programs and servcies that meet neighbourhood needs. The provision of programs and services at the local level is only the first step of the HIVE Vision.

Over the next five years it is expected that the HIVE will move towards becoming more self-sustaining - with volunteer led programs, neighbourhood based learning situations, neighbourhood gatherings and celebrations, a self-governing neighbourhood association, and local residents shaping the strategic direction of the centre.
